While I've spent my entire career in health care as an EMR consultant and a director of medical records and technology at a major academic hospital, my baccalaureate degree in in international business. It was at Northwest Missouri State University that I began to understand global economics and, in particular, the views of Michael E. Porter on the "competitive advantage of nations." My professors applied Porter's concepts to most market segments, but I don't remember them ever including health care.
